Jakob Sivertsen (born November 18, 1943 in Tiniteqilaaq ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Atassut ).

Jakob Sivertsen is the son of Pele Sivertsen († 1950) and his wife Polunika († 1959). On July 23, 1983, he married Monika Kilime (* 1952).

He was trained as an office and shop assistant and worked from 1964 to 1977 as a trade administrator in Kulusuk . He then continued this profession in Kuummiit until 1985 .

In 1975 he stood for election for Grønlands Landsråd . As the only candidate in an electoral alliance, the KNAPK , he was only able to win 108 of the 693 votes in his constituency. Four years later he went to the first election for Inatsisartut and was able to get a seat. In the following decades he was re-elected in 1983, 1984, 1987, 1991, 1995, 1999 and 2002, making him, at the age of 26, together with Josef Motzfeldt, after Jonathan Motzfeldt at 38, the Greenlander who has sat in parliament for the longest uninterrupted period. From 1989 to 1993 he was also mayor of the municipality of Ammassalik . On June 4, 1997 he was awarded the Nersornaat in silver.

In 1999, an article was published in the Atuagagdliutit in which Jakob Sivertsen was publicly asked to resign because of his scandals such as insults or alcohol abuse, but this did not happen. In the 2002 election he was re-elected. However, there was another scandal in 2005 when he drunk and quarreled with the airport staff in Kangerlussuaq because they refused to let him get on the plane to Kulusuk in his condition. He was arrested and his party banned him from running for the Atassut in the 2005 general election. As an individual candidate, he could no longer reach enough voters and left the Inatsisartut.

On January 13, 2017, his wife's 29-year-old niece was visiting. After she left, she came back in the evening, obviously forgetting her cell phone, kicked the door and threw in a window. When Jakob Sivertsen opened the door, she asked him to give her her cell phone. When he asked her to leave the house and she disobeyed this, he went into another room, got a rifle and shot her in the chest. She was able to speak to a witness before she died on the scene. On September 21, he was finally sentenced to six years in prison, the standard penalty for murder in Greenland. He appealed, but the verdict was upheld.
