Fyens Stiftstidende is a Danish regional daily newspaper based in Odense . Its distribution area includes the island of Funen ( Danish outdated Fyen ) and the South Funen Archipelago . The originally conservative newspaper declared itself politically independent but bourgeois in 1975 . While 72,300 copies were sold daily in 1988, the circulation fell to around 47,400 in the first half of 2010. The joint Sunday edition of Fyens Stiftstidende and Fyns Amts Avis achieved a weekly circulation of 67,944 copies during the same period.
The forerunner of the newspaper, the Kongelig Priviligerede Odense Adresse-Contoirs Efterretninger , appeared for the first time on January 3, 1772 and in 1852 received the current name Fyens Stiftstidende . After Søren Hempel took over the paper in 1797, the newspaper was family-owned for the next 174 years. In 1970 it passed to the current owner, Den fynske Bladfond .
In the 1960s, the paper developed into the leading newspaper in Odense, until 1969, when the last competitor in the city, Fyns Tidende (1872–1979), was taken over. In the 1970s she won a "newspaper war" with the Fyns Amt Avis .
After 221 years as the evening appears leaf Fyens Stiftstidende than 1993 morning leaf. In April 2006 the company took over half of the shares in Kjerteminde Avis A / S , which continues to publish independently. Fyens Stiftstidende founded the partner company Fynske Medier P / S in October 2006 together with the Aktiengesellschaft A / S Svendborg Avis (owner of Fyns Amts Avis ) , under whose roof all activities of both newspapers have been united since January 2010.
In addition to the head office in Odense, there are local editorial offices in Assens , Bogense (for the Nordfyn region ), Kerteminde , Middelfart and Nyborg as well as in Faaborg , ringen (for the Midtfyn region ) and Svendborg , which are maintained together with Fyns Amts Avis .
