Assens [ ˈasəns ] is a Danish port city on the Little Belt . It was founded in 1231 and has a well-preserved old town center.
geography
Assens is located on the west coast of the Danish island of Fyn ( English : Funen ) on the Little Belt. A possible approach can be made via the car bridge over the Little Belt past the city of Fredericia .
Local authority
The city forms its own parish ( Danish : Sogn ) Assens Sogn , but now also extends to the area of the adjacent Gamtofte Sogn to the north . Both originally belonged to Harde Båg Herred in the Odense office , then since 1970 to Assens municipality in the Fyns office , which was merged with the municipal reform on January 1, 2007 in the "new" Assens municipality in the region of Syddanmark , whose administrative seat is Assens.
port
The city has an industrial port with a shipyard and two docks, one of which is covered. From the harbor there is a ferry connection to Bågø . Directly opposite the industrial port with its docks is the marina for sport boaters with 600 berths, 100 of which are for guests.
traffic
From May 31, 1861 to May 21, 1966, the Assensbane connected the city with Tommerup Stationsby. There were connections to Odense there . Since 1995, part of the route can be used with bicycle trolleys.
