Assens Municipality is a Danish municipality in the west of the island of Funen . It was created on January 1, 2007 in the course of local government reform by uniting the “old” Assens municipality with the previous municipalities of Glamsbjerg , Haarby , Tommerup , Vissenbjerg and Aarup in Fyns Amt .
Assens municipality has a total population of 40,965 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and an area of 511.40 km². It is part of the Syddanmark region and the administrative headquarters are in Assens .
