Faaborg-Midtfyn Kommune is a Danish municipality on the island of Funen . Faaborg-Midtfyn municipality has a total population of 51,556 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and an area of 633.60 km². It is part of the Syddanmark region . The administrative seat is rings .
The municipality was created in the course of the municipal reform in 2007 by amalgamating the previous municipalities of Faaborg , Rings , Ryslinge , Broby and Årslev in Fyns Amt . In the process, Faaborg lost its administrative headquarters to rings because it was unable to influence the merger negotiations with neighboring communities in its own favor due to party-political and personally motivated trench warfare in the local council. Faaborg was then variously characterized as " South Funen's Balkans ".
The Herringe treasure hunt dates from the Viking Age (800-1050 AD) and was excavated in 2008 and 2009.
