Tønder Kommune (German Kommune Tondern ) is a Danish municipality in the region of Syddanmark in southern Denmark ( Nordschleswig ), which became part of the Danish municipal reform on January 1, 2007 by merging the "old" Tønder municipality with the previous municipalities of Højer , Bredebro , Skærbæk , Nørre-Rangstrup and Løgumkloster in Sønderjyllands Amt . The municipality has 37,366 inhabitants (January 1, 2020) on an area of 1,281.80 km².
