Bredebro was a municipality in Sønderjyllands Amt , the most south-western part of Denmark .

It was created during the administrative reform in 1970 from the parishes of Ballum , Brede , Randerup , Skast (German: Schads ) and Visby (German: Wiesby ). Since the village of Bredebro in the parish of Brede was the most important place in economic and transport terms in these five municipalities, their name was chosen as the name for the new municipality. With the municipal reform on January 1, 2007 , the municipality was part of the large municipality of Tønder (German: Tondern ).
