Broager Kommune ( German  Kommune Broacker ) was a municipality in Sønderjyllands Amt in southern Denmark . It was created by the union of the parish of Broager with Egernsund .

background

Broager Kirke has stood in the main town of Broager for centuries . Egernsund only got its own church in 1909 . Egernsund was originally part of Broager. After the referendum in Schleswig in 1920, the area finally became part of Denmark. In 1920 Egernsund initially formed an independent municipality. In 1970 the parishes in question were finally merged.

Since Broager had over 6,000 inhabitants in 1970, it was able to avoid being merged with other neighboring communities. In 2007 it merged with the municipalities of Augustenborg , Gråsten , Nordborg , Sønderborg , Sundeved and Sydals in the municipality of Sønderborg , which has over 70,000 inhabitants and whose area is larger than that of the Sønderborg office, which was dissolved in 1970.
