Augustenborg Kommune (German: Kommune Augustenburg ) was a municipality in the middle of the island of Alsen in the region of Syddanmark (German: Region Süddänemark ) in southwestern Denmark . It came into being with the municipal reform in 1970 , when the four municipalities Asserballe (German: Atzerballig ), Augustenborg (German: Augustenburg ), Ketting and Notmark (German: Nottmark ) were merged to form the new municipality. During the municipal reform in 2007 , the municipality went together with the municipalities Nordborg (German: Norburg ), Sydals (German: Südalsen ), Sønderborg (German: Sonderburg ), Broager (German: Broacker ), Sundeved (German: Sundewitt ) and Gråsten (German: Gravenstein ) in the large municipality of Sønderborg, which has 70,000 inhabitants .
