The ZIL-4104 is a representative limousine from the Russian manufacturer ZIL with a V8 engine and automatic transmission. The vehicle was produced for the Soviet leadership from 1978 . The body was changed in details in 1985.

Model history

The ZIL-4104 was presented in 1978 as the successor to the ZIL-114 , but was still only built for the Soviet leadership and the leadership of friendly states within the framework of the Comecon . The 4104 was again not a new design and differed from the ZIL-114 mainly by a larger V8 engine with 7.7 instead of 7.0 liters and some stylistic and technical improvements. In the 1990s, a version with even better details appeared with the new designation ZIL-41041 for the version with a normal wheelbase and ZIL-41047 for the long version. The export price for a ZIL-41047 was approximately US $ 250,000 in the mid-1990s.

The sedan was produced in the following versions:

  • ZIL-4104 - starting model of the following series, also known as ZIL-115; 1977-1983
  • ZIL-4105 - Sedan ZIL-4104, but armored
  • ZIL-41041 - Sedan with a short wheelbase of 3.30 m, length 5.75 m
  • ZIL-41042 - Combined version as a rescue vehicle, also known as ZIL-115A
  • ZIL-41043 - Combined version as a funeral vehicle
  • ZIL-41044 - Short wheelbase convertible
  • ZIL-41045 - Model revision of the starting model ZIL-4104, from 1983/1985
  • ZIL-41046 - model with extended equipment (mostly communications technology, when used as a presidential escort vehicle)
  • ZIL-41047 - sedan with a long wheelbase of 3.88 m, length 6.33 m.
  • ZIL-41052 - Sedan ZIL-41047, but armored
  • ZIL-4112R - model revision, not only visually, especially technically; but exclusively armored, for presidential use

The car is powered by a 7.7 liter V8 engine and develops 232 kW (315 hp). The ZIL-41041 has four doors and five seats. The empty weight is 3160 kg, the maximum permissible total weight is 3560 kg. The Pullman version (ZIL-41047) has seven seats and an empty weight of 3550 kg, with a maximum permissible total load of 4110 kg.

Even after the end of the Soviet Union, the vehicle was manufactured individually on request, but had not been further developed technically since 1985. The engine had a carburetor until the end . Production ended in 2002 because no more orders were received. However, the car was offered on the manufacturer's website for years. In 2010 three more open cars were made for parades on Victory Day .

In 2012 the prototype of a further modernized model was presented, the ZIL-4112R. However, there were no orders from the Russian government. President Vladimir Putin is said to have made negative comments about the new model during a tour, which is clearly still based on the previous model from the 1970s. ZIL went bankrupt around 2013 and the plant in Moscow has meanwhile been demolished.
