The AMO-2 ( Russian AMO-2 ) is a 1930 manufactured in series to 1931 trucks of the Soviet first state automotive plant (Russian 1-й Государственный автомобильный завод abbreviated as 1-й ГАЗ, transcribed 1-i Gossudarstwenny Awtomobilny Sawod). Until about 1925, the abbreviation AMO was also found in the company name , which stood for Awtomobilnoje Moskowskoje Obschtschestvo (German: Moscow Automobile Company ) and is reflected in the type designation of the truck. The vehicle was a copy of the Autocar Dispatch SA from the US Autocar Company . A total of around 1700 copies were built.

Vehicle history

The AMO-F-15 had been produced in the manufacturing plant in Moscow since 1924 . At the end of the 1920s, people looked for suitable constructions abroad. Representatives from Daimler-Benz were invited and visited the company, but no cooperation was established. Instead, 2000 kits from the US two-and-a-half- ton truck Dispatch SA from the Autocar Company were bought and assembled by the former AMO from 1930. Very few parts came from Soviet in-house production, for example small things like door handles.

The AMO-2 brought various innovations to Soviet truck construction. It was the first vehicle to be equipped with a membrane fuel pump and battery ignition . In addition, a small compressor was driven via the gearbox , with which the tires could be filled with air.

After the Soviet Union imported fewer and fewer vehicles and vehicle parts for various reasons, the production facilities in the Moscow plant were also converted and upgraded. From November 1931 almost all parts could be manufactured in-house, after which the production of the AMO-F-15 and AMO-2 models was discontinued in favor of the successor AMO-3 . The latter still largely corresponded to Dispatch SA, but was continuously developed over the course of the following two years. At the end of this development was the ZIS-5 in 1933 , which was produced almost unchanged until the end of the 1950s.

Based on the AMO-2, there was also a model with a longer wheelbase (4420 mm), which, however, did not have its own type designation. The kits purchased in 2000 were not fully assembled: 895 vehicles were built in 1930, and another 820 in 1931. It is not known whether one of the 1,715 vehicles is still available today.
