The 76-mm division cannon M1942 (SiS-3) ( Russian 76-мм дивизионная пушка обр. 1942 г. (ЗиС-3) ), in the literature based on other transcription ZiS-3 , was a Soviet field cannon with a caliber of 76.2mm that was used during World War II . It was designed in 1940, the responsible chief designer was WG Grabin . A total of over 103,000 copies were made. 76-mm divisional cannon M1942 was the designation of the Red Army and SiS-3 was the manufacturer's equivalent designation, Zavod No 92 imeni Stalina (Stalin Plant No. 92). The captured guns used by the German Wehrmacht were given the designation 7.6 cm field cannon 269 (r) . It was also called Ratsch-Bumm by German soldiers .

history

The gun was originally designed as a light field gun. However, Grabin developed the weapon in such a way that it could also fire in direct direction . According to Soviet doctrine, the gun was then also given armor-piercing ammunition. For a long time, the SiS-3 was one of the best anti-tank guns of World War II. Due to its manageability, availability and user-friendliness, the weapon was increasingly pushed into the role of the anti-tank gun instead of being used in its actual use as field artillery.

After the war, mass production ceased. As a further development of the SiS-3, the field cannon 85 mm cannon D-44 was designed with a caliber of 85 mm.

The 1943 SU-76 self-propelled gun was equipped with an SiS-3.
