Ian Hogg

Ian Vernon Hogg (born January 1, 1926 in Durham , England - † March 7, 2002 ) was a British author who published or edited more than 150 books on firearms , artillery , ammunition and fortification . Numerous biographies of important generals come from his pen.

Career

Ian Hogg enlisted in the British Army in April 1945 and was assigned to the artillery force. During the Second World War he served in Europe as well as in Asia . After the war, he remained in the army and participated in the Korean War in the early 1950s . At the end of his 27-year service in the British Army, taught at the Royal Military College of Science (now the Defense College of Management and Technology ). The focus of his lessons were the areas of firearms, artillery, their ammunition and their use.

He published his first book in the late 1960s. Only after his service did he devote himself entirely to military history and writing. He edited Jane's Infantry Weapons between 1972 and 1994 and published numerous articles in journals. His books on military history have been translated into numerous languages. Overall, Ian Hogg wrote about 150 books on the subject of defense technology . Most of these books for the German market were published by Motorbuchverlag.

  • Due to reading errors, Hogg's name Ian V. Hogg has been falsified to Ivan Hogg in some book catalogs , which makes it difficult to find his publications.
