Tamsir Jallow

Tamsir Jallow (* 1941 ) is a politician and diplomat from the West African state of Gambia .

Life

After graduating from the University of Cape Coast in 1970 , Jallow began his professional career as a science teacher that same year. He later took on a management position at a secondary school and was later primarily responsible for the creation of curricula. (1980-1989) He completed other postgraduate courses at the University of Birmingham , the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Nairobi . From 1989 he was the General Secretary of the Gambia Teachers Union , which he held until 2000.

He was the first chairman of the July 22nd Movement from 1995 to 1997. He was also a founding member of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC). After the parliamentary elections in 1997 , he was appointed, in addition to the elected members, in January as a further member of parliament, he took over the function of majority leader ( English Majority Leader ) and thus he led the faction of the APRC in parliament.

After the legislature, he was appointed Deputy High Commissioner in the United Kingdom in late March 2002 , replacing Fatou AK Njie. He held this position until 2005. He then served briefly as a security guard until he was appointed High Commissioner in the United Kingdom in June 2006. In 2007 he moved to New York and was The Gambia's permanent representative to the United Nations . In October 2007 he was dismissed from this position and in December 2007 he was appointed Ambassador of the Gambia to the United States to succeed Dodou Bammy Jagne. In early June 2008, Jallow was called back from New York.
