geography
The municipality of Domfaing is located in the western foothills of the Vosges , about halfway between Saint-Dié and Épinal .
The center of the municipality forms a basin that was created by the rivers Ruisseau de Moxené and Ruisseau de Buttant that flow together here . To the north, the basin opens to the outflow of the streams towards Mortagne . The municipality of Domfaing includes an approximately two-kilometer-long section of the Mortagnetal valley in the north. At the edges of the small basin, some striking mountains rise, such as the 444 m high Haut de Belmont in the south and a ridge up to 508 m high called Contimpierre in the north.
The slopes north of Mortagne and the area around the Haut de Belmont are forested, around the settlement Domfaing there is pasture and arable land. The railway line from Mont-sur-Meurthe via Rambervillers to Bruyères , which was closed in 1988 and which ran south of the village center and rose in the direction of Bruyères to cross the ridge between the valleys of Mortagne and Vologne, forms a clearing that is still clearly visible today .
Domfaing includes the districts of Neuf Moulin and La Hazelle as well as the hamlet of Haut de Belmont with the church of St. Laurentius.
Neighboring municipalities of Domfaing are Mortagne in the north, Les Rouges-Eaux and Bois-de-Champ in the north-east, Belmont-sur-Buttant in the south-west, Vervezelle in the south-west and Brouvelieures in the west.
