Frenelle-la-Grande is a French commune in the Vosges department of Region Grand Est . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Mirecourt Dompaire .
geography
The community of Frenelle-la-Grande in the Xaintois, with 108 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), is located in the north of the Vosges department, on the border with the Meurthe-et-Moselle department , eight kilometers northwest of the small town of Mirecourt . The undulating ground relief around Frenelle-la-Grande belongs to the catchment area of the Madon . The largest part of the municipality is used for agriculture; in the east, the community has an approximately 20 hectare portion of a forest area.
Neighboring municipalities of Frenelle-la-Grande are Boulaincourt in the north, Bouzanville in the northeast, Ambacourt in the east, Puzieux in the south, Frenelle-la-Petite in the west and Fraisnes-en-Saintois in the northwest.
history
The place Frenelle-la-Grande was first mentioned in a document as Grandem Frasnum according to the Catholic encyclopedia Gallia Christiana in 1051 . Other, later names were Franellum, Frasnel and Frana magna and Grande Frenel in Cassini's "Atlas National" .
The village belonged to the Mirecourt Bailiwick until the French Revolution . The current church was built at the end of the 19th century in place of a previous building from the sixteenth century.
The school and the town hall ( Mairie ) were built in 1834.

Economy and Infrastructure
There are six farms in the community (grain cultivation, dairy farming, cattle breeding, pig farming).
Frenelle-la-Grande is away from the national transport links. Seven kilometers to the south there is a connection to the département road D 166 ( Épinal - Neufchâteau ), which has been developed without intersections . The Nancy - Mirecourt - Merrey railway runs through the municipality . Trains no longer stop at the former Frenelle-la-Grande - Puzieux stop , located in the municipality of Frenelles. The nearest train station is in the nearby town of Mirecourt.
