Damas-et-Bettegney is a French commune in the Vosges department of Region Grand Est (2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Mirecourt Dompaire, founded in 2017 .

geography

The municipality of Damas-et-Bettegney with 366 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) is located about 15 kilometers west of Épinal and 15 kilometers southeast of the small town of Mirecourt . The Gitte , a small tributary of the Madon , flows through the municipality in a south-east-north-west direction . The gitte takes on the Ruisseau des Preys and Ruisseau le Saurupt streams here .

The forest area in the municipal area amounts to around 200 ha, by far the largest proportion of the area is used for agricultural purposes.

Neighboring communities of Damas-et-Bettegney are Circourt in the north, Bocquegney in the northeast, Hennecourt in the east, Gorhey in the southeast, Dommartin-aux-Bois (point of contact) and Harol in the south, Ville-sur-Illon in the southwest and Madonne-et-Lamerey in the West.

history

In the early 18th century Damas belonged to the rule of the Baron von Dommartin . The municipality with today's territorial status was formed in 1800 by the merger of Damas-devant-Dompaire and Bettegney-devant-Dompaire .

The church was built in Damas in 1724. The mayor's and boys' school building ( mairie-école ) dates from 1812.

Economy and Infrastructure

There are 16 farms in the municipality (grain and fruit growing, dairy farming, horse and cattle breeding).

The D 166 trunk road from Épinal to Mirecourt / Neufchâteau , which is partially expanded to two lanes, runs between today's village center and the district of Bettegney . At the nearby Dompaire junction , the D 28 / D 3 branches off to Vittel and to the A31 autoroute .
