geography

The municipality of Bocquegney is 13 kilometers west of Épinal , the prefecture of the Vosges department.

The Rupt Julot and the Ruisseau de Desainchamp, which flows into it, arise in the area of the municipality . After four kilometers, the Rupt Julot flows over the Gitte and the Madon to the Moselle . The ground relief around Bocquegney is characterized by rolling hills, in the north of the municipality the terrain rises gradually and reaches the highest point at 411 meters above sea level. It is not far from a viewpoint with the monumental Croix de Virine belonging to the neighboring community of Circourt .

The settlement area of Bocquegney extends along two axes: on the north slope over the Rupt Julot in a west-east direction and over the valley floor of the Rupt Julot out to the former train station in a north-south direction.

About 45 hectares or a tenth of the 4.57 km² community area is accounted for by the two forest areas in the southeast and the extreme north of the community. Most of the community area is used for agriculture.

Neighboring municipalities of Bocquegney are Bouxières-aux-Bois in the north, Mazeley and Gigney in the northeast, Fomerey in the east, Darnieulles in the southeast, Hennecourt in the southwest and west and Damas-et-Bettegney and Circourt in the northwest.

history

In 1295 the place appeared for the first time as Bouqeugneix in a document. The local estate initially belonged to the Lords of Bocquegney, who were subordinate to the Remiremont Chapter and the Baron in Darnieulles . The spell Bocquegney, which also includes the current community Fomerey mattered was later owned by the governors of Darney . The residents of Bocquegney were parish in Hennecourt .

It is recorded from 1648 that the inhabitants of the village fled to Darnieulles Castle from the troops of the French king when they attacked Épinal.

Bocquegney had a breakpoint south of the village center on the railway line from Épinal via Neufchâteau to Chaumont . Traffic on the Neufchâteau-Épinal route was largely suspended in 1974. The Dompaire -Bocquegney- Darnieulles track section is now a street. The name of a street ( Rue du Gare ) still reminds of the former train station in Bocquegney .

Economy and Infrastructure

In addition to a local forest enterprise, agriculture still plays the most important role in Bocquegney today. There are three farms in the municipality (grain cultivation, cattle breeding). Some residents commute to the nearby Épinal agglomeration.

South of the village center, the two-lane D 166 trunk road runs from Épinal to Vittel / Neufchâteau , and Départementsstrasse 6 runs north from Darney to Nomexy .
