Dorothea von Pfalz-Simmern (born January 6, 1581 in Kaiserslautern , † September 18, 1631 in Sandersleben ) was a Countess Palatine of Simmern and by marriage Princess of Anhalt-Dessau .

Life

Dorothea was the only surviving child of Count Palatine Johann Kasimir von Simmern (1543–1592) from his marriage to Elisabeth (1552–1590), daughter of Elector August of Saxony .

She married Prince Johann Georg I of Anhalt-Dessau (1567–1618) in Heidelberg on February 21, 1595 . The wedding was initiated by Elector Friedrich IV of the Palatinate , her guardian. Under the influence of his wife, Johann Georg I openly converted to Calvinism in 1596 . After the death of her husband, Dorothea retired to her Wittum office and Schloss Sandersleben.

Dorothea was buried in the Marienkirche in Dessau . Her two older sons had the grave monument placed in 1631. Dorothea was a member of the Tugendliche Gesellschaft under the name Die Gastfrei .
