from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Aribert Prince of Anhalt-Dessau (born June 3, 1606 ; † November 14, 1643 in Wörlitz ) from the Askanier family was one of the sons of Prince Johann Georg I of Anhalt-Dessau , who never came to power.

Life

When his father died in 1618, Prince Georg Aribert was 12 years old. Therefore he came under the guardianship of his brother Johann Kasimir von Anhalt-Dessau , but was later legally equated with him.

In 1619 Georg Aribert was accepted into the Fruit-Bringing Society by his uncle, Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt-Köthen . This gave him the company name of the graceful and the motto in smell and taste . A bitter orange tree with ripe bitter oranges ( Citrus aurantium L. ) was assigned to him as an emblem. Georg Aribert's entry can be found in the Koethen Society Register under number 24. This is also where his rhyme law is recorded, which he wrote on the occasion of his recording:

One
should show oneself gracefully in the heart and mind at all times.
What belongs to it will be seen with
fervidly only on mildness and goodness.
Dan will be graceful in the taste and smell
and load a curse on yourself not at all easily.

His brother and uncles, Princes Ludwig I of Anhalt-Köthen , Rudolf von Anhalt-Zerbst , Christian I of Anhalt-Bernburg and August von Anhalt-Plötzkau , were all members of the Fruit-Bringing Society.

Together with Christoph Albrecht von Zanthier , Georg Aribert performed imperial military service from 1625 to 1629. In 1632 Wörlitz was granted him his own residence ; in addition, he also got the possessions of Radegast and Kleutsch .

On March 7, 1637 he married Johanna Elisabeth , a daughter of Christoph von Krosigk, in a morganatic marriage . With her he had a son, Christian Aribert von Radegast, Count von Bähringen († 1677) and the four daughters Sophie von Bähringen (1637–1695), Eleonore von Bähringen (1642–1677), Dorothea Ariberte von Bähringen (1639–1661) and Johanna von Bähringen († 1660). His princely family pushed for a marriage contract that forever excluded his wife and descendants from the princely class .

Georg Aribert von Anhalt-Dessau died in Wörlitz at the age of 37.
