Count Wilhelm Heinrich von Bentheim-Steinfurt (born February 13, 1584 in Bentheim , † October 6, 1632 in Burgsteinfurt (?)) Was canon in Strasbourg .

Life

Count Wilhelm Heinrich was the son of Count Arnold II of Bentheim , who also became Count Arnold IV of Steinfurt in 1566, and his wife Magdalena von Neuenahr-Alpen . His siblings were Moritz von Bentheim-Tecklenburg , Ernst Wilhelm von Bentheim-Steinfurt , Johann Adolf von Bentheim-Steinfurt , Friedrich Ludolf von Bentheim-Alpen , Amoena Amalia von Bentheim and Anna von Bentheim .

Count Wilhelm Heinrich studied at the University of Strasbourg. There he published a Methodico dispositio in 1603 . In the following year, at the age of 20, Count Wilhelm Heinrich became canon at the cathedral there.

Through the fraternal division of the country, he received the possession of Burgsteinfurt. Here he mainly promoted the local high school, the illustrious grammar school founded by his father .

On November 2, 1617 he married Anna Elisabeth von Anhalt-Dessau , a daughter of Prince Johann I von Anhalt-Dessau . With her he had a son who, however, died in childhood.

On the occasion of his wedding, Count Wilhelm Heinrich was accepted into the Fruit Bringing Society by Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt-Köthen . As a company name he was given "the strong one" and as a motto "in smell and essence". "A full bloomed carnation" was given to him as an emblem.

When Count Wilhelm Heinrich von Bentheim-Steinfurt died on October 6, 1632 at the age of 48, this Steinfurt branch line became extinct.
