history

The place Deyvillers was first mentioned in the year 1000 as Dei Villare . At that time, the settlement was in the Epinal Bailiwick, today's community was created during the Ancien Régime together with the western neighboring community of Jeuxey within the diocese of Metz . The mayor's office in Deyvillers, created by the king, collected three large plows from the residents and five francs each to St. Remigius (January 13th) and at Easter. The Church of St. Luke ( Saint-Luc ), built in 1840, belonged to the deanery of Vosges in the diocese of Saint-Die . From 1790 to 1802 Deyvillers was part of the canton of Longchamp. In 1874 the school and mayor building ( mairie-école ) was built. From 2005 to 2011 Deyvillers was the seat of the community association Est-Épinal Développement .

Away

In the north-west of the municipality, Fort de Deyvillers, is one of the large fortifications that were built in a semicircle around Épinal after the Franco-Prussian War .

The Fort de Deyvillers located 370 meters above sea level in a forest, one kilometer northwest of the village center. It was built from 1900 to close the defensive gap between the forts Adelphi and Longchamp and to secure the road from Épinal to Saint-Dié . With its infantry and artillery positions under reinforced concrete domes, it was one of the most modern facilities at the time.

The fort was destroyed in 1943 by the Todt organization , and it was no longer restored or used after the Second World War. The fort is now owned by the municipality, which allows inspections of the relatively well-preserved structure.
