Gorhey is a French commune with 178 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Mirecourt Dompaire .
geography
The small community of Gorhey is located 13 kilometers west of Épinal in the center of the Vosges department.
The approximately 15 km long Gitte , a narrow tributary of the Madon, flows through the 6.31 km² municipal area . The Gittetal, which is 400 meters wide in the local area, turns from the south to the northwest. It is flanked in the west by slopes that lead to a plateau up to 400 meters high. The built-up settlement area is north-south in the gently sloping terrain to the right of the Gitte. The largest part of the community area consists of agricultural land. Only in the south-west and east does the municipality have shares in forest areas, which together cover around 100 ha.
Immediately to the south-east of Gorhey runs the apex of the Canal des Vosges , which overcomes the main European watershed separating the Rhine and Saône .
Neighboring municipalities of Gorhey are Hennecourt in the north, Darnieulles in the east, Chaumousey in the southeast, Dommartin-aux-Bois in the south and Damas-et-Bettegney in the northwest.
history
The village of Gorhey was first mentioned in 1144 as a guoherei and part of the ban of Bouxières-aux-Bois .
The church of Saint-Paul, built in the 12th century, belonged to the deanery of Jorxey in the diocese of Saint-Dié , later the pastoral care was subordinate to the chapter in Remiremont .
Between 1780 and 1790 the town hall ( Mairie ) and the school were built.

Economy and Infrastructure
The inhabitants of the originally looking farming village of Gorhey work in the eight local farms (dairy farming, cattle breeding) or commute to the industrial areas in the vicinity.
Gorhey can be reached by road from all neighboring communities. Two kilometers north of the community runs the partly two-lane expressway from Épinal to Vittel / Contrexéville .
