Hennecourt is a French commune with 361 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Mirecourt Dompaire .

geography

The small community of Hennecourt is located 13 kilometers west of Épinal in the center of the Vosges department.

The approximately 22 kilometer long Gitte , a narrow tributary of the Madon, flows through the southwest of the 7.17 km² municipal area . The Rupt Julot , a small stream that flows into the Gitte from the northeast, forms the gentle, approximately 200-meter-wide valley on which the Hennecourt settlement is based. To the north of the built-up settlement area of the town center is a generously laid out residential area, which is located immediately south of the expressway from Épinal to Vittel .

By far the largest part of the community area consists of agricultural land. Only in the west and north does the municipality have shares in forest areas, which together cover around 40 hectares. The northernmost point of the municipality is also the highest at 419 meters above sea level. It is not far from a lookout point with the monumental Croix de Virine .

Neighboring communities of Hennecourt are Circourt in the north, Bocquegney in the northeast, Darnieulles in the east, Gorhey in the south and Damas-et-Bettegney in the west and north-west.

history

The village of Hennecourt was first mentioned in 1109 as Hennoniscuris . The spell Hennecourt belonged to half the chapters in Remiremont and local masters. In terms of church, Hennecourt was subordinate to the parish in the neighboring village of Gorhey as part of the Jorxey deanery .

Between 1790 and 1801 Hennecourt was part of the municipality of Dompaire.

Population development

The increased construction of private homes and the convenient location near Épinal have led to a strong population growth over the past 50 years.
