Blémerey is a French commune in the Vosges department of Region Grand Est . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Mirecourt Dompaire .

With 28 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Blémerey is the third smallest of the 515 communes in the Vosges department.

geography

The municipality of Blémerey is located in the Xaintois , about 40 kilometers northwest of Épinal and 40 kilometers south of Nancy , on the border with the Meurthe-et-Moselle department .

The Ruisseau le Breuil flows through Blémerey and drains to the Moselle tributary Madon . The proportion of forest in the area of ​​the municipality is about 10%. Just a few kilometers north of Blémerey, the striking Colline de Sion with the Signal de Vaudémont tower rises 541 meters above sea level.

Neighboring municipalities of Blémerey are Fraisnes-en-Saintois in the north-east, Frenelle-la-Petite in the south-east, Oëlleville in the south-west, Chef-Haut in the west and Courcelles in the north-west.

history

Blémerey was first mentioned in a document in 1403 or 1413. The village was part of the Mirecourt Bailiwick . The Saint-Hubert chapel in Blémerey belonged to the parish of the neighboring village of Courcelles in the dean's office of Saintois in the diocese of Toul .

The Saint-Hubert (St. Hubertus) church was built in 1561. The school from 1881 no longer exists today.

The mayor's office ( Mairie ) is now housed in a school building that was built later . The facade with the inscription Ecole Communale still reminds of the earlier function .

Economy and Infrastructure

There is an agricultural business in the community (dairy farming).

Blémerey is away from the national traffic flows. Six kilometers south of the village runs the partly two-lane trunk road D 166, which leads from Épinal via Mirecourt to Neufchâteau .
