Bettoncourt is a French commune in the Vosges department in the region of Grand Est . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Mirecourt Dompaire .

geography

The community of Bettoncourt, with 96 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), is located about 40 kilometers south of Nancy and 40 kilometers northwest of Épinal , not far from the border with the Meurthe-et-Moselle department . The nearest small towns are Mirecourt seven and Charmes twelve kilometers away.

The Moselle tributary Madon forms the northwestern municipal boundary. To the southwest and northeast of the village of Bettoncourt, the Le Hainvau and Le Xouillon streams flow into the Madon. The Madontal widens in the mouth areas. The terrain rises gently to the southeast to a plateau that overlooks the Madon Valley by over 100 meters. The community share in the forest area of ​​this plateau is about 20 ha. Apart from another narrow strip of forest in the north of the community, the 3.18 km² community area consists mainly of arable and meadow land.

The neighboring communities of Bettoncourt are Vomécourt-sur-Madon in the north, Gircourt-lès-Viéville in the east, Mazirot in the south, Chauffecourt in the southwest and Ambacourt in the west.

history

The place Betoncourt appears for the first time in 1232 in a document as part of the Bailiwick of Mirecourt .

Bettoncourt does not have its own church. Pastoral care is provided by the Saint-Martin church in the neighboring parish Vomécourt-sur-Madon. The small chapel Saint-Martin-et-Saint-Sébastien was founded in 1726 by the parish priest of Viviers-les-Offroicourt.

From 1790 to 1801 Bettoncourt belonged to the canton of Mirecourt .

Economy and Infrastructure

Bettoncourt was able to maintain its character as a farming village. There are four farms in the municipality (dairy, horse and cattle breeding).

There is a retirement home in the community.

The D 55 road from Mirecourt to Charmes leads through Bettoncourt and connects to the RN 57 ( Metz - Nancy - Épinal ), which is similar to the motorway . The nearest train station is in the nearby town of Mirecourt on the Nancy – Dijon line .
