Chaumousey is a French commune with 908 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Épinal .
geography
The municipality of Chaumousey is ten kilometers west of Épinal on a plateau that separates the catchment areas of the rivers Moselle , Madon (a tributary of the Moselle) and Saône . The Canal des Vosges runs directly past the northern municipal boundary of Chaumouseys, which, coming from the Moselle valley in Épinal, after climbing over the lock staircase at Golbey , reaches the apex of the main European watershed , which is fed by the nearby Reservoir de Bouzey .
Neighboring communities of Chamousey are Darnieulles in the north, Sanchey in the east, Renauvoid in the southeast, Girancourt in the south, Dommartin-aux-Bois in the west and Gorhey in the north-west.
history
In 1090, the place appeared for the first time in a document as a Calmosiacum in connection with an abbey of the Augustinian Canons , the remains of which were destroyed during the French Revolution. The place name Chamoncey is proven for 1656 , in 1793 there was still the spelling Chaumouzey .
Population development
The proximity to the departmental capital Épinal and the excursion area around the Bouzey reservoir has drawn many townspeople to Chaumousey over the past 30 years.

Economy and Infrastructure
Chaumousey is home to many commuters to the nearby town of Épinal. The location on the Bouzey reservoir brought tourism as an important source of income (campsite, guest houses, riding stables), agriculture only plays a subordinate role. Six farms are located in the municipality (fruit growing, dairy farming, cattle breeding). Would highlight the orchards around Chaumousey, especially the yellow plums of varieties Nancy .
