history

Lépanges appeared as a Lesperange as early as the 11th and 12th centuries. The village was part of the bailiwick of Bruyères . The residents were divided into two parishes: they went to Champ-le-Duc or to Charmois-devant-Bruyères , and later to Deycimont . All three parishes belonged to the dean's office of Bruyères in the diocese of Épinal.

Lépanges only got its own parish church in 1866, it was consecrated to Saint-Libaire, a holy martyr who was beheaded in 362 on the orders of the Roman Emperor Julian. The girls 'school in Lépanges was built in 1860, the mayor's and (boys') school building followed in 1877.

During the French Revolution, Lépanges belonged to the later disbanded canton of Docelles .

In the second half of the 19th century, the area around Lépanges was known nationwide for starch production. In 1880 there were 153 starch producers in the neighboring town of La Neuveville alone. Potatoes served as the starting point, and energy was supplied by numerous water mills on the Vologne.

In 1870 Lépanges got a railway connection. The station was on the Arches - Saint-Dié line .

For a long time the most important branch of business in Lépanges was the textile industry. A factory founded in Tourcoing in 1946 and relocated to Lépanges in 1964 comprised the weaving, dyeing and sewing departments. Operations ceased in autumn 2008.

In 1984 Lépanges-sur-Vologne became known nationally and internationally as the home of the victim and the suspect in the Grégory murder case .
