The canton of Bruyères is a French canton in the arrondissements Épinal and Saint-Dié-des-Vosges , in the Vosges department and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Bruyères .

history
The canton was founded in 1790. By 2015, 30 communities belonged to the canton of Bruyères. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 51 in 2015. In addition to the previous 30 communes, 21 communes came from the cantons of Brouvelieures (all 10 communes), Châtel-sur-Moselle (7 of the 23 communes) and Corcieux (4 of the 13 municipalities).

The canton consists of 51 municipalities with a total of 19,943 inhabitants (as of 2017) on a total area of 399.27 km 2 :
Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Bruyères included the 30 municipalities of Aydoilles , Beauménil , Bruyères , Champ-le-Duc , Charmois-devant-Bruyères , Cheniménil , Destord , Deycimont , Docelles , Dompierre , Fays , Fiménil , Fontenay , Girecourt-sur-Durbion , Grandvillers , Gugnécourt , La Neuveville-devant-Lépanges , Laval-sur-Vologne , Laveline-devant-Bruyères , Laveline-du-Houx , Le Roulier , Lépanges-sur-Vologne , Méménil , Nonzeville , Padoux , Pierrepont-sur-l'Arentèle , Prey , Sainte-Hélène , Viménil and Xamontarupt . Its layout corresponded to an area of 229.51 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 8803.
politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Bernadette Poirat / Christian Tarantola (both UG) won against Patrick Cunin / Audrey Erb (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 56.88% (turnout: 55.75%).
