The canton of Gérardmer is a French canton in the Arrondissement of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges , in the Département Vosges and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Gérardmer .

The canton is on the eastern border of the Vosges department.
history
The canton was founded in 1790. Until 2015, only three municipalities belonged to the canton of Gérardmer. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 17. In addition to the previous 3 communes, the communes of the previous cantons Corcieux (9 of the 13 communes) and Fraize (5 of the 9 communes) were added. On January 1, 2016, the two municipalities of Aumontzey and Granges-sur-Vologne merged to form the new municipality of Granges-Aumontzey and the number of municipalities fell to 16.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the three municipalities of Gérardmer , Liézey and Xonrupt-Longemer belonged to the canton of Gérardmer . Its layout corresponded to an area of 98.76 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 8814.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Eliane Ferry / Guy Martinache (both DVD) won against Gilles Laurent / Valérie Ritter (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 63.82% (turnout: 51.83%).
