La Houssière is a French commune with 587 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and the municipality of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges .
geography
The municipality of La Houssière is located in the Vosges on the upper reaches of the Neuné river , a tributary of the Vologne , about 16 kilometers southwest of the city of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges . In the north, the municipality protrudes far into the wooded mountain region of the Forêt Domaniale de Champ with several elevations of over 600 m up to the upper reaches of the Mortagne .
The Neuné river valley widens near La Houssière; Due to the low gradient, the river divides into several arms, which unite a few kilometers downstream. The highest point in the municipality at 751 m is a summit of the striking, isolated Mont Thiriville in the south.
The districts of Vanémont and La Côte belong to the 8.88 km² community of La Houssière . Neighboring municipalities of La Houssière are Taintrux in the north, Saint-Léonard in the northeast, Anould in the east, Corcieux in the southeast, Vienville in the south, La Chapelle-devant-Bruyères in the southwest and Biffontaine and Bois-de-Champ in the northwest.
history
During the Ancien Régime , La Houssière belonged to the bailiwick of Bruyères , ecclesiastically to the dean of Corcieux , which was dependent on the canons of the Remiremont chapter . The High Court of Justice fell under the jurisdiction of the dukes of Lorraine.
La Houssière received a railway connection on the railway line from Épinal to Saint-Dié-des-Vosges with the breakpoint in the district of Vanémont in 1876 .
coat of arms
The silver band on a red background is reminiscent of the Lorraine coat of arms. The three green holly leaves are intended to underline the origin of the name ( houx = holly ). The golden tower refers to the fortress La Tour in the nearby small town of Corcieux , which ruled La Houssière in the Middle Ages.
