It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and the canton of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges-1 (until 2015: canton of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges-Ouest ). The inhabitants are called Bourgonçois .

La Bourgonce is located about ten kilometers west-northwest of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges in the Vosges . La Bourgonce is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of La Salle in the north, Nompatelize in the northeast, Saint-Michel-sur-Meurthe in the east, Mortagne in the south and southwest, Autrey in the southwest, Housseras in the west and Jeanménil in the northwest.
