geography

The fave at Remomeix

The municipality of Remomeix is located in the Vosges , about six kilometers south-east of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges , the capital (chef-lieu) of the arrondissement of the same name, and about 15 kilometers west of the Vosges ridge, which forms the border with the former Alsace region . The municipality covers a section of the Fave valley , which is almost a kilometer wide here shortly before the confluence of the Fave into the Meurthe . The valley of the Fave is one of the few flat areas in the Vosges that is suitable for agriculture. The Saint-Dié-Remomeix regional airport ( Aérodrome de Saint-Dié - Remomeix ) is located here - flanked by the industrial area of Cap Vosges . On the southern edge of the Favetal, the terrain rises to over 450 m above sea level and reaches the highest point at 481  m in the southeast corner of the municipality. In the southeast corner, the Bois des Raignes is the only forest area worth mentioning.

Remomeix includes the districts and hamlets of Les Nolles, La Voivre, La Petite Voivre, La Voivrelle, Faing Thiéry, Le Coichier, Les Fontenys and the northern part of Les Paituotes .

Neighboring communities of Remomeix are Pair-et-Grandrupt in the north, Raves in the east, Coinches in the southeast, Entre-deux-Eaux in the south and Sainte-Marguerite in the west.

history

The area of today's parish was settled between the years 670 and 700 at the time of the arrival of the first monks around Deodatus , Bishop of Nevers , who founded their cell of the Assumption in the valley of the upper Meurthe . Remomeix belonged to the Bailiwick of Saint Dié . The place name is made up of a personal name (Remo or Ramo) and the suffix -meix (in medieval Latin mesus / maison for house).

The choir of the Saint-Laurent church dates from the 16th century, the rest of the nave and a sandstone baptismal font from the 18th century. The small Saint-Laurent cemetery chapel has long been a pilgrimage destination for believers with skin diseases.
