history
The area of today's parish was settled between the years 670 and 700 at the time of the arrival of the first monks around Deodatus , Bishop of Nevers , who founded their cell of the Assumption in the valley of the upper Meurthe . The village of Raves first appears in a document from 1329 as Rayves . It belonged to the Bailiwick of Saint Dié . Raves was church- related for a long time with Bertrimoutier - the church of St. Jacob the Elder, responsible for both parishes, was located here. The rectory, school and cemetery in Bertimoutier were also used by both parishes. A larger chapel was built in Raves in the 19th century and was dedicated to St. Stephen. From 1790 to 1801, Raves was part of the canton of Bertrimoutier. In August 1923, the Raves - Ban-de-Laveline station on the Strasbourg-Saint-Dié railway was opened.
