Belval is a French commune with 156 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region ( Lorraine until 2015 ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and the canton of Raon-l'Étape .
geography
The municipality of Belval is located in the Val de Senones in the Vosges and is the last village in Lorraine below the Col du Hantz , a 636 meter high pass that leads into the Breuschtal in Lower Alsace. The Ru du Voe rises east of Belval and flows through the municipality of Belvals and flows below Le Mont into the Ruisseau de la Rochere , a tributary of the Rabodeau . The eastern border of the municipality of Belval runs on the Vosges ridge and forms the border with the Alsace region . During the First World War , Belval was right on the front line .
Belval's neighboring municipalities are: Le Saulcy in the west and north, Plaine and Saulxures in the east, and Le Vermont and Le Puid in the south.
history
Around 1793 the village was part of the Principality of Salm . The textile industry found its way into Belval from around 1870. The industrialist family Nansa had a castle called Belval built, which is now in the neighboring municipality of Le Saulcy .

Economy and Infrastructure
The inhabitants of Belval are mainly active in agriculture (mainly pasture farming), forestry (sawmill) or in the tourism sector of the Val de Senones . The Belval parish does not have its own church. The church in the neighboring parish of Le Saulcy , just a few hundred meters away, is therefore also responsible for Belval.
Départementsstraße 424 leads through Belval from Moyenmoutier over the Vosges ridge to Saint-Blaise-la-Roche . The D 49c connects Belval with Moussey in the upper Rabodeautal.
