Saulxures (German Salzern ) is a French commune with 512 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ).
geography
The municipality is located in the Vosges near the Breusch River and is surrounded by forests. After the city of Strasbourg in the northeast, you drive around 60 kilometers. A road leads over the Col du Hantz into the Rabodeau valley in the Vosges department .
history
An early mention of the village comes from the 14th century. At that time it was owned by the Counts of Salm . When the property was divided, the estate was given to Jean IX in 1600 . awarded by Salm , who brought it to the Duchy of Lorraine when he married . In the course of the dwindling influence of the Dukes of Lorraine, the area fell back to the House of Salm in 1751 and was finally annexed by France in the course of the First Coalition War in 1793 and made the Canton de la Plaine , which no longer exists today . Under Napoléon , Saulxures became part of the Saales canton in 1801 . The municipality has belonged to the canton of Mutzig since 2015.
