Ottrott is a French commune with 1546 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the canton of Molsheim in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It includes the villages of Ottrott-le-Haut (Oberottrott) , Ottrott-le-Bas (Niederottrott) and Eichwaeldel. Ottrott is on the Alsace Wine Route .
Also on the municipal area which is Odile , one of the most visited pilgrimage sites of Alsace . In addition, Ottrott shares the village of Klingenthal , which is known for its former arms manufacture, with the neighboring community of Bœrsch .
geography
The place is on the department road D 35 between Barr in the south (8 km) and Rosheim in the north (7 km). After Obernai in eastern is 4 km and to the city of Strasbourg km to the northeast about 30 seconds.
Thanks to its location right at the foot of the Vosges , Ottrott has a favorable climate, which benefits viticulture. In terms of area, Ottrott is one of the largest municipalities in Alsace, with the proportion of forest, which also includes a section of the Forêt d'Obernai , is very high (25 km²).
The neighboring communities are Barr, Bernardswiller , Bœrsch, Le Hohwald , Neuviller-la-Roche , Obernai and Saint-Nabor .

- Old Lützelburg ( Vieux Lutzelbourg ), 11th century, foundation walls of a round tower and a rectangular building
- Old cellar , ruin of a residential tower from the 12th century, with Romanesque windows from Girbaden Castle and Niedermünster Monastery inserted into it
- Birkenfels , 13th century, well-preserved ruin
- Dreistein , 13th century, ruins of a three-part system
- Hagelschloss , 12th century, ruin with an imposing wall arch over a crevice, closed due to the risk of collapse
- Kagenfels , 13th century, ruin, since 1999 extensive excavations and security work
- Koepfel , probably 11th century, few remains
- Lützelburg ( Lutzelbourg ), 13th century, well-preserved ruin with a round keep and shield wall, accessible to visitors on guided tours
- Rathsamhausen , 12th century, impressive Romanesque castle complex with tower palas (in danger of collapsing) and round keep, together with the neighboring Lützelburg also called “ Ottrotter Schlösser ”, closed to visitors
- Windeck , 18th century, in the park (private property) is Altkeller Castle
- The result is a group of a total of ten castles in an area of a few square kilometers around the Odilienberg , which is an exceptionally high density of castles even for Alsace, which is so rich in castles.

Viticulture
In a region in which mainly white wines are produced, the red wine with the designation of origin Rouge d'Ottrott (Ottrotter Roter) is a specialty. It is made from the Pinot Noir grape and has the AOC certificate .
