Origin of the name
Blanche comes from the Germanic Blanca (white, light); rupt comes from the Latin rivus (stream) or ruptum (stream). In fact, there are many small springs in the immediate vicinity of Blancherupt.
history
The village first appears in documents in 1371. Messrs. Ratsamhausen sold Blancherupt in 1507 to the Bishop of Strasbourg . But they continue to manage the village.
In 1604 the village was acquired by the Lords of Bollwiller, including the Fugger heirs. In 1659 the village went to Andlau , which was confirmed in 1688. Blancherupt belonged to Andlau until the revolution. As a result of the breakdown of 1790, the village came to Bas-Rhin and was integrated into the canton of Rosheim of the district of Benfeld.
After the church was built (completed in 1860), Blancherupt became an independent parish in 1861. The Saint-André church was built by the Strasbourg architect Eugène Petitie .
