geography
Cosswiller is on the edge of the Northern Vosges . The center is in the Sathbach valley, about 4.5 kilometers from Wasselonne and 26 kilometers northwest of Strasbourg , surrounded by the neighboring communities of Romanswiller , Westhoffen and Allenwiller . The Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord biosphere reserve is about 15 kilometers to the north. Cosswiller is in a risk area with regard to possible flooding of the Mossig . In December 1999 floods and landslides occurred during Hurricane Lothar and the subsequent storms. The Mossig caused particularly strong floods in 1983, 1990, 2001 and 2004. In January 2004 the entrance to Cosswiller was under water.
history
In the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) the population of the village was decimated. The Seigneurs von Cosswiller were Protestants . They called on families from Switzerland to move to Cosswiller and rebuild the village. That is why the residents of Cosswiller belong to the Reformed Church .
In 1793 Cosswiller received in the course of the French Revolution (1789-1799) as Cossweiller the status of a municipality and 1801 as Cosswiler the right to local self-government. In 1871 the community was incorporated into the newly created realm of Alsace-Lorraine of the German Empire due to changes in territory due to the course of the Franco-German War (1870–1871) and was given the German name "Koßweiler". The realm of Alsace-Lorraine existed until the end of the First World War (1914–1918) and was then dissolved. The community then belonged back to France and was renamed Cosswiller again.
Cosswiller was a member of the Communauté de communes des Coteaux de la Mossig , founded in 1992 , which was merged into the Communauté de communes de la Mossig et du Vignoble in 2017 .

Culture and sights
The Reformed Church building was built between 1818 and 1819, with the stipulation that it should look more like a house than a church. The bell tower was added in 1843. The window frames and door leaves come from the Marmoutier library and were probably made in the 18th century. The building stands on the foundations of an older church from the 12th or 13th century, of which only the ruins of the entrance tower were preserved as early as 1820.
A new attraction is the Heliodome , a bioclimatic private house made of wood, glass and concrete.
Economy and Infrastructure
Cosswiller is the main supplier of drinking the water board Kochersberg. There are several craft businesses and several country inns in the village. In recent years a new primary school has been built and a library has been set up.
