Attractions

Dachstein is located off the main roads in Alsace and is therefore not very well developed for tourism. The village still has interesting buildings like

  • the medieval city gate Porte de la Bruche ,
  • St. Martin's Church ( Église Saint-Martin ), which still has Gothic components, with a nave and a baroque altar
  • the Renaissance castle (extended in the 19th century in the neo-Renaissance style) of the De Turckheim family, Château de Turckheim or Vieux Château . It was formerly a summer residence of some of the bishops of Strasbourg and
  • the old wash house as well
  • the Hervé Bourcart castle or “La Magnanerie”. It is more in the center of the village and was built in 1750 as a private villa which housed the royal school of silkworm rearing. It has been owned by the Hervé family since 1838. In the 1990s, the castle and the idyllic surroundings served as the backdrop for the filming of the film saga "The Alsatians or Two Mathilde". Magnan is an Occitan term and means mulberry . The Magnanerie is the place of business for a silkworm farm.
  • In the streets of Dachstein there are several traditional half-timbered houses, some have a gallery made of carved wood.
