Rosenwiller (German: Rosenweiler ) is a French commune with 686 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the canton of Molsheim in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). The neighboring communities are Dorlisheim , Gresswiller , Mollkirch , Mutzig and Rosheim .

history

Rosenwiller was subordinate to the Hohenbourg Abbey . In 1252 the place passed to the rule of Strasbourg . The population suffered when the plague and wars raged in the 15th and 16th centuries . Among them was the Thirty Years' War , which affected Rosenwiller in 1632. In 1771 the village became an independent municipality.

Attractions

The Catholic Church of the Assumption , the oldest parts of which date from the 13th century, is listed as a Monument Historique . The high altar in the Gothic choir , the side altars and frescoes from the 14th / 15th century are of particular interest . Century as well as various figures of saints. In the back there are two medieval stained glass windows from the 14th century. In 1998 a new organ from the organ builder Marc Garnier with 2 manuals / pedal and 19 registers was installed in the church.

The Jewish cemetery was established in 1349. It is considered one of the largest and best preserved of its kind in Alsace and is also protected as a Monument Historique.
