Jewish cemetery (Rosenwiller)
The Jewish cemetery in Rosenwiller , a French commune in the Bas-Rhin department of the Grand Est region , was laid out in the early 14th century at the latest. The Jewish cemetery on the Route de Grendelbruch in the direction of Mollkirch has been protected as a Monument historique since 1995 .
history
The Jewish cemetery in Rosenwiller is the largest Jewish cemetery in Alsace and at the same time one of the largest Jewish association cemeteries in Central Europe. The following Jewish communities buried their dead here (some communities created their own cemeteries in the 18th or 19th centuries): Balbronn, Baldenheim, Barr, Bergheim, Biesheim, Bischheim, Bonhomme, Brumath, Buswiller, Dambach, Dangolsheim, Diebolsheim, Dinsheim, Dornach, Duppigheim, Duttlenheim, Eckbolsheim, Epernay, Epfig, Ettingen, Fegersheim, Grusenheim, Gunstett, Kaysersberg, Kolbsheim, Krautergersheim, Kuttolsheim, Lingolsheim, Molsheim, Mutzig, Niedernai, Obernai, Oberschaeffolsheim, Osthof-lefen, Ottrottheim Scharrachbergheim, Schirmeck, Soultz, Stotzheim, Strasbourg, Traenheim, Valff, Zellwiller.
In the four hectare cemetery, 6470 graves were counted. Most of the tombstones ( mazewot ) date from the 18th and 19th centuries.
In the cemetery there is a memorial stone in memory of the victims of the National Socialist persecution of the Jews .
