Mollkirch is a French commune with 923 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region ( Alsace until 2015 ).
The hamlet of Laubenheim also belongs to Mollkirch . The castle ruins of Girbaden are enthroned above the town .
geography
The village is somewhat remote on the edge of the Vosges in the Magel Valley . Most of the municipality is forested. Cities nearby are Obernai in the southeast and Molsheim in the northeast. The city of Strasbourg in the east is about 40 km away.
history
From 1871 to the end of the First World War , Mollkirch belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Molsheim district in the Lower Alsace district .
