Bernardswiller (German Bernhardsweiler , Alsatian Batschwiller ) is a French commune in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It is located in the canton of Obernai at the foot of the Odilienberg on an area of 5.53 km² and has 1,455 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). The neighboring communities are Obernai in the north, east and south, Saint-Nabor in the west and Ottrott in the north-west.
The place is located on the Alsace Wine Route .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1276. In the 14th century, the city of Obernai acquired ownership of the place. It was only after the French Revolution that Bernardswiller became an independent municipality, with both municipalities having to run a joint household until 1838. The final dissolution of the property community lasted until 1982, the forest area is still managed jointly.
