The wine village is located in the Upper Rhine Plain and is climatically favored thanks to its location directly at the eastern foot of the Vosges . The municipal area is crossed by the department road D 35 ( route du vin ) from north to south. To the west you reach the Vosges pass Col du Schaentzel and to the east the town of Sélestat is only about five kilometers away. history

Kintzheim Castle

The village was first mentioned under the name Quningishaim (later Chuniggesheim ) from the 8th century. These place names suggest that it was once the residence of a king.

During the Thirty Years War , the place was affected; the castle was occupied by the Swedes and destroyed when they withdrew.

During the years of peace, between the Dutch War and the Palatinate War of Succession , Joseph de Montclar developed a nursery for fruit trees on the land of the Marquis of Uxelles, Nicolas Chalon du Blé , in Kintzheim and Haguenau .

From 1338 to 1791 the municipal area was owned by the town of Sélestat, whose former coat of arms is now the municipal coat of arms.
