Schwobsheim is a French commune with 323 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the community association Ried de Marckolsheim . The inhabitants are called Schwobsheimois.

geography

Schwobsheim is located between Baldenheim in the west and Richtolsheim in the east, nine kilometers southeast of Sélestat in the Pays du Grand Ried . The Rhine-Rhône Canal runs east of the town .

Attractions

It is not known whether the Mairie (town hall) already stood around 1830 and was rebuilt in 1860, or whether a completely new building was built in 1860. It is believed that the house used to house a village school.

An original church in Schwobsheim was mentioned in a document in 953. The current parish church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur was built around 1843 by the architect Antoineringenisen. The church has an organ built by Jaque Besançon (1735–1811) (or Louis Dubois) in 1769. Since 1989 the organ has been classified as a Monument historique (historical monument). In 1995 the organ was restored and an invoice from 1766 was found which had been issued by Louis Dubois (1726–1766), who like Besançon was a well-known organ builder. The organ was only sold to Schwobsheim in 1845.
