Hessenheim is a French commune with 620 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region ( Alsace until 2015 ).

geography

On the eastern side, the Rhine-Rhône Canal forms the municipal boundary with the neighboring town of Artolsheim . Department roads run in four directions from Hessenheim. In addition to small businesses, livestock farming is an important branch of business. The so-called Hessenheimer Weide is mostly located in the municipality of Mussig .

history

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Hessenheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Schlettstadt district in the Lower Alsace district .
