The county Schlettstadt was from 1871 to 1920, a German district in the district of Lower Alsace of the Empire State Alsace-Lorraine . The area of the district is today essentially in the arrondissement of Sélestat-Erstein in the French department of Bas-Rhin .
history
After Alsace-Lorraine fell to the German Empire as a result of the Frankfurt Peace Treaty , the district of Schlettstadt was formed from the previously French arrondissement of Schlettstadt. After the end of the First World War , the district was occupied by France in 1918 and, with the entry into force of the Versailles Treaty on January 10, 1920, again belonged to the French state as the arrondissement of Schlettstadt . During the Second World War , Alsace-Lorraine was under German occupation from 1940 to 1944. During this time, the area of the arrondissement of Schlettstadt formed the district of Schlettstadt . The district was not annexed in the sense of international law , but was subordinate to the Gauleiter for the Gau Baden in Karlsruhe . Between November 1944 and February 1945, the district was liberated by Allied forces and then returned to France.
