Sundhouse (German Sundhausen ) is a French commune with 1,823 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). The community is a member of the Ried de Marckolsheim community association .
geography
The village is located in the Upper Rhine Plain between Schlettstadt (about 13 km to the west) and the Rhine (about 5 km to the east). The Rhine-Rhône Canal runs immediately to the west of the town .
history
The name "Sund" was derived from "South". Sundhouse forms a square with Nordhouse , Osthouse and Westhouse . (A similar situation exists in the villages of Westhoffen , Osthoffen and Sundhoffen .) An ancient sanctuary has been identified in the center of the square. In Sundhouse from the terminus of a westerly was 1909-1944 Schlettstadt next railway line , with steam operated.

Attractions

Regular events
- The beer festival takes place annually on the first weekend in May.
- A fireworks around the fish pond is burned on Saturday before July 14, the French national holiday.
