Mairie Sundhoffen

Sundhoffen (German Sundhofen ) is a French commune with 1938 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It is located in the arrondissement of Colmar-Ribeauvillé and there in the canton of Colmar-2 .

history

The place Sundhoffen was mentioned for the first time in a document from the year 768 (Suntor) . While the old village had been on the west side of the Ill river for centuries , a new building area east of the Ill was not built until after the Second World War . Today there are only a few full-time farmers left, most of the residents probably work in Colmar.

In 1848 all male residents of the village were given the right to vote and were thus included in French politics for the first time.

Around the same time, a solid, permanent bridge was built over the Ill for the first time; it replaced the earlier, rather fragile river crossings.

Population development

At the beginning of the 19th century, the population initially increased, to 1278 inhabitants around 1840. But then the place lost its inhabitants again and it wasn't until 1975 that a similar number of people lived in the community again. The rural exodus was the cause of the population decline .
